Tiger Street Food Virtual Festival 2021: Street Food Meets Streetwear

After the first Tiger Street Food Virtual Festival in 2020, Tiger brought the online festival back in November 2021 with a new twist: street food meets streetwear. The idea was that both are a big part of Malaysian street culture and a way for people to express themselves, so this edition mashed the two together.

Street Food x Streetwear

Tiger partnered with six local streetwear labels: EK Collective, TNT Co, The Swagger Salon, Eversince, Pestle & Mortar and Dissyco. Each brand designed two limited-edition pieces. The most fun idea was the Hypefeast Drop, a bundle that paired one of the apparel pieces with the street food dish that inspired it, plus a Tiger Beer and a Tiger Crystal. It was a clever way to connect a favourite local dish to a design you could actually wear.

How the Virtual Festival Worked

Like the year before, you explored the festival as a custom avatar, browsing virtual streets of food vendors and ordering for delivery. This time, deliveries covered Kuala Lumpur, Selangor, Penang, Ipoh and Johor Bahru, as long as you were within 10km of the vendor. The festival ran for six weeks from 12 November 2021, every Thursday to Sunday from 11am to 9pm.

Games and Tiger Coins

Playing games, buying food and even posting an outfit-of-the-day photo of your avatar in the festival’s streetwear earned Tiger Coins, which could be swapped for food vouchers, drinks and merchandise. It added a playful, game-like layer to what is basically food delivery.

Final Thoughts

The second edition felt more polished than the first, and pairing street food with local fashion labels was a fresh way to support two creative communities at once. Still, I am glad real, in-person street food festivals are back.
