Tujo Retro Bar & Restaurant @ Ascott Kuala Lumpur
In July 2019, I joined the relaunch of Tujo at Ascott Kuala Lumpur on Jalan Pinang. The bar and restaurant refreshed its concept with a new tagline, “Eat, Drink, Play”, and a retro theme that brings back the music of the 80s, 90s and early 2000s. Think disco, the Macarena and boy-band hits, paired with comfort food and drinks.
A Different Theme Every Night
The idea is that there is something new to look forward to from Monday to Saturday. At launch, the line-up was:
- Monday – Chill: acoustic performances and drink promotions
- Tuesday – Play: pool, darts and bingo, with a beer buffet
- Wednesday – Wink: ladies’ night with cocktails and a DJ playing 90s and 00s tunes
- Thursday – Live: a resident retro cover band and a wine buffet
- Friday – Dance: party hits from a DJ
- Saturday – Explore: Modern Indian cuisine from Goa by celebrity chef Sapna Anand, with live performances
The Food
The new menu leans into comfort food with a local twist. Highlights include Wagyu Fried Kway Teow, an Ayam Percik Platter, the Tujo Wagyu Burger and the Malaysiana Pizza, a fun nasi lemak pizza topped with traditional chicken floss. For lighter bites, there are bruschetta, a spiced sausage dish and a nibbles platter.
On weekends, the Goa Thali set was the one to try, starting at RM35 with a choice of main plus unlimited appam, flavoured rice and sides.
Final Thoughts
Tujo is a fun, casual spot for after-work drinks or a group night out, especially if you love retro music. Themes, menus and prices may have changed since this launch, so check Tujo’s latest schedule before you go.
