Between The City & Stars: Light Art Festival @ Lightbox Sungai Buloh

From 25 November 2017 to 1 January 2018, Lightbox in Sungai Buloh hosted Between The City & Stars, billed as one of Malaysia’s first and largest light art festivals. Local and international artists turned the space into a mix of indoor and outdoor installations that blend art, light and technology, and it made for a fun, dreamy night out.

The festival also marked the launch of Lightbox itself, a venue meant to bring the community together for new experiences with art. Each installation had its own atmosphere, so it felt like walking through a series of small worlds.

City Gazing

Curated by Dutch artists VUOW, City Gazing flips the city upside down: a map of Kuala Lumpur’s streets hangs above you while you stand among clouds and stars at street level. It is a clever, very photogenic piece.

LED Light Swings and Secret Rendezvous

The glowing LED swings were a nostalgic favourite with both kids and adults. Nearby, Secret Rendezvous is the couples’ corner, where you can lock a love lock or send a postcard to someone special.

Aurora Laser Show

This was my favourite part! The Aurora Laser Show combines light and sound to transform the whole space, and it is a real sensory experience. At the time, it ran every hour for about 10 minutes, so it is worth timing your walk around it.

Dreamscape

The last stop, Dreamscape by Addonlife with designers Sergio Alves and Henrique Nascimento, immerses you in a magical, colourful world that is perfect for photos.

Tips: Go after dark for the best effect, wear comfortable shoes, and check what Lightbox is showing now before you go, as exhibitions change.
Location: Lightbox, No 29, Jalan LGSB 1/1, Pusat Komersial LGSB, off Jalan Hospital, 47000 Sungai Buloh, Selangor
