Beach Club Cafe KL 20th Anniversary Party
On 6 December 2019, Beach Club Cafe in Kuala Lumpur turned 20, and close to a thousand guests turned up to celebrate. As one of the longest-running live-music bars in the Golden Triangle, it has been a favourite with both tourists and city folk for two decades, so it was fun to be part of the party.
Twenty Years on Jalan P. Ramlee
Beach Club Cafe was opened in 1999 by Datuk Judy Ng, her late partner Ronnie Choong and a few friends. It first stood opposite the old Emporium nightclub at the corner of Jalan P. Ramlee and Jalan Sultan Ismail, then moved to its current spot after 14 years. Datuk Judy is still involved day to day, and she credits the bar’s long run to constantly reinventing itself in a fickle industry.
The Venue
The name comes from its tropical beach look: thatched roofs and wooden floors across an 11,000-square-foot, multi-level space. The interior has stayed the same over the years, but the entrance now has a new water feature that catches your eye from the street. Live bands and DJs play everything from 80s classics to Top 40 hits every night.
The Party
It was a great night with free-flow drinks, food and plenty of entertainment. Highlights included a performance by Tribe of Orient, an LED stage show and a set by KL’s Trio Divas, followed by the cake cutting and a celebratory toast. The night was also a thank-you to the staff and partners who have supported the bar since day one.
Final Thoughts
If you want a lively night out in KL’s Golden Triangle with live music and a holiday-island vibe, Beach Club Cafe is a KL classic worth checking out.
