After a year of cancelled birthdays, anniversaries and get-togethers, Guinness turned St. Patrick’s month in March 2021 into a chance to celebrate everything we had missed. Since big parties were still off the table, the celebration came to people’s homes instead, in the form of Guinness St. Patrick’s Celebration Kits.
St. Patrick’s Day, on 17 March, honours the patron saint of Ireland. It has become a worldwide celebration of Irish culture, known for green outfits, shamrocks, music and, of course, a pint of Guinness, the famous Irish stout from Dublin. In Malaysia, Guinness usually marks it with a whole month of events.

For 31 days, fans in the Klang Valley and Penang could share a missed occasion on Guinness’s social media pages, and five were picked each day to receive a kit. Each kit was matched to the occasion and paired with Guinness: burger platters, cakes, cocktails, ice cream and at-home BBQ platters. The kits could also be bought directly from the vendors during March.

The best part for me was the line-up of local food partners:
It was a nice way to support local F&B businesses during a tough period.

If you want to recreate the idea at home, Guinness goes well with rich, savoury food like burgers, grilled meats and stews, as its roasted, slightly bitter notes balance the fat. It is also great with chocolate cake or vanilla ice cream, where the coffee and cocoa flavours really shine.
