After two years of celebrating at home, including the 2021 St. Patrick’s Celebration Kits, March 2022 finally brought St. Patrick’s back to the bars. Guinness’s theme was simple and fitting: get the gang back together.
St. Patrick’s Day falls on 17 March and honours the patron saint of Ireland. Around the world it has become a celebration of Irish culture, with green outfits, music, parades and plenty of Guinness, the famous stout from Dublin. In Malaysia, Guinness stretches it into a month of events.

Throughout the weekends of March, selected bars hosted St. Patrick’s parties with Irish parades, live bands and games with giveaways. The STOUTie machine also made a comeback. It prints your selfie onto the creamy head of a Guinness, which I first saw at the Guinness Flavour by Fire festival, and it is still one of the most fun things to try.

One highlight of 2022 was the arrival of Guinness Draught in a Can in Malaysia. Each can contains a small nitrogen “widget” that releases bubbles when opened, giving you the creamy, pub-style head at home. For the best result, chill it well, then pour it into a glass in one steady pour and let it settle.

It felt good to see St. Patrick’s celebrated in person again, with friends gathered around a table rather than on a video call. Sláinte!
